Organising an event in a public space

Would you like to organise a festival, flea market or sporting event in the streets of Brussels? Any activity in the public space requires prior authorisation.

The form can be used for the application for different types of events and activities in public places:

  • concert
  • show (theatre, circus arts)
  • parade
  • party (neighborhood party,...)
  • sports activities
  • exhibition and art
  • flea market (brocante), rummage sales, market, fair
  • sale in public space
  • sensitisation action (stand, distribution or leaflets or flyers, collection, ...)
  • promotion action
  • TV or film recordings
  • letting go of balloons
  • fireworks (pyrotechnic effects)
  • ... 

Your event must take place:

  • within the territory of the City of Brussels (postal codes: 1000,1020, 1120 or 1130)
  • in a public space (street, square, park,...)

This does not include the following events, which require other specific types of authorisation:

  • Events organised inside or on the grounds of a building: authorisation from the building manager may be required.
  • Demonstrations: police authorisation is required.

Logistical requirements? 

The City of Brussels can loan you External siteequipment (podiums, tables, chairs,...).

To submit your request:

  • Completed form:
    • in Word: Form (171.89 KB)
    • or in PDF: Form (579.63 KB)
  • Plans if infrastructure or furniture is foreseen

Depending on the size and type of your event, you will then receive a detailed list of the documents to be provided.

Obtaining authorisation is free.

Please note: if it is deemed necessary for the public security services to give an opinion or intervene, any costs incurred will be at your expense.

Small event (less than 500 people): the application must be submitted no later than 8 weeks before the event is due to take place.

Major event (more than 500 people): the application must be submitted no later than 3 months before the event is due to take place.
