Non-EU foreigner - Temporary protection - Residence permit renewal (A Card)

From 5 January 2026, non-EU nationals with temporary protection status can apply to their municipality of residence for a renewal of their residence permit (A Card), which will be extended until 4 March 2027.

Hold an A Card as a person with temporary protection status.

Please note: from 5 January 2026, new temporary protection beneficiaries in possession of a 'temporary protection certificate' can immediately obtain an A Card valid until 4 March 2027, once they have applied to register in their municipality of residence.

By appointment, at the counter of the Administrative Centre of the City of Brussels to be made:

  • online
  • by phone on: 02 279 35 20 

  • Passport
  • A Card
  • A recent passport photo on a white background 

Normal procedure: 30 euros (over 12s), 12 euros (under 12s)
Urgent procedure: 150 euros

Additional charges in the event of repeated loss or theft:

Renewal following a 2nd loss/theft: 60 euros 
Renewal following a 3rd loss/theft: 150 euros

  • Standard application: 1 to 2 weeks
  • Urgent application: the next day, if the application is submitted before 3 pm. Outside of administration opening hours, you can, on request, collect your card from the FPS Home Affairs, located at Rue des Colonies 11 - 1000 Brussels.
