Certificate of mode of burial and/or rite
The certificate of mode of burial and/or rite includes the wishes expressed by a person during his lifetime on the method of burial and, where applicable, the destination of the ashes after cremation.
This certificate also mentions, if the wish is expressed, the confessional or non-confessional rite for the funeral as well as the existence of a funeral contract.

Living on the territory of the City of Brussels.

- Free
- 20 euros for the legalization if the document is to be used abroad (outside the European Union)
Waiting period
If the certificate is to be used in Belgium: immediately.
If the certificate is to be used abroad (outside the member states of the European Union): 5 working days. In this case, the City is responsible for requesting its legalization from the Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs.
