EU, EU+, F+ residence card

Belgian EU, EU+, F+ residence cards are issued when the conditions of stay relating to these types of cards are met.

Equipped with an electronic chip, the card data can be read by means of a card reader and allows you to:

  • access online services (MyBXL, Tax-on-web, numerous e-government applications)
  • sign documents electronically

  • To have one's main residence on the territory of the City of Brussels
  • For the EU card and identity certificate for a foreign child under 12 years of age: have previously submitted the application for a certificate of registration (Annex 19) to the Foreigners' Office except in the case of a simple renewal
  • For EU+ and F+ cards: have submitted in advance the application for permanent residence (Annex 22) to the Foreigners' Office, after a period of stay of 5 years 

You must present yourself personally both for the application and for the collection of the residence permit (for the taking and verification of fingerprints).

  • Application for the residence card: only by appointment (except for requests under very urgent procedure), at the counter of the Administrative Centre of the City of Brussels or the liaison offices of Louise, Laeken, Neder-Over-Heembeek and Haren
  • Collection of the residence card: without an appointment at the counter where the application was submitted. 

  • Old residence card (or Annex 8ter/EU card, F card + national identity card or passport)
    Please note: in case of loss/theft of the residence card or the Annex, give a certificate of loss/theft issued by the police
  • 1 recent (6 months maximum) External siteICAO compliant passport photo 

Normal procedure: 30 euros (over 12s), 12 euros (under 12s)
Urgent procedure: 150 euros

Additional charges in the event of repeated loss or theft:

Renewal following a 2nd loss/theft: 60 euros 
Renewal following a 3rd loss/theft: 150 euros

Normal procedure: 2 to 3 weeks

Very urgent procedure: the next day, if the request is submitted before 3 pm. Outside the opening hours of the administration, you can, on express request, collect your card at the FPS Home Affairs, located at Rue des Colonies 11 - 1000 Brussels.
