Registration of a job seeker (EU citizen)

Are you a European citizen or assimilated (national of Switzerland, Iceland, Lichtenstein or Norway), are you a job seeker and are you staying on the territory of the City of Brussels?

If you intend to reside in Belgium for more than three months and establish your main residence there, you must contact the municipal administration of the City of Brussels to register.

Please note: when you attend your appointment at the Foreigners' Office, you must submit a complete file in order to legally submit an 'application for a registration certificate' (Annex 19). Otherwise, this certificate cannot be issued.

  • European citizen or assimilated
  • Establish your main residence on the territory of the City of Brussels (precise address: street name, house number, possible mailbox number)
  • Being a jobseeker 

With an online taken appointment only, at the counter of the Administrative Centre of the City of Brussels or the liaison office of Louise.

Registration is done in several steps:

  1. Application for a registration certificate (Annex 19): at your first appointment, bring all the required documents to submit your application. You will receive an Annex 8ter as provisional proof of your registration and you will be entered in the waiting register.
  2. Residence check: the police will then verify that you actually live at the declared address.
  3. Registration and EU residence card: if the check is positive, you will be registered at your address in the foreigners' register and an appointment will be scheduled to apply for your EU residence card.

  • National passport or national identity card

  • Health care coverage in Belgium
  • Proof of registration as a job seeker or letters of application + proof of having a real chance of being hired (CV, diploma, promise of employment or proof of regular employment as a temp,...) 

  • Registration request: 25 euros
  • Card request: 30 euros 

The Immigration Office (FPS Home Affairs) will decide on your file within 6 months of submitting your application if all the required documents have been provided and if the address check has proved positive.
