New PIN code for an electronic card

Have you not received your PIN code? Have you lost or forgotten it? You can request a new PIN code or change your current one.

Identity cards and residence cards are electronic and protected by a PIN code.

This code allows you to:

  • Activate your card
  • Identify yourself online
  • Use your card for certain administrative procedures
  • Sign documents electronically

Good to know!

Since 2026, your card only works with a PIN code. The PUK code no longer exists.

  • Your main residence must be located in the City of Brussels.
  • You must have a national register number.

Did you not receive your PIN code?

You can request a new code:

  • External siteOnline via the FPS Interior website.
    Then collect your code at the Brucity Administrative Centre.
     
  • At the counter of the Brucity Administrative Centre or at a liaison office, without an appointment.
    In this case, you must collect your code from the place where you submitted your request.

Did you forget your PIN code?

You can change your PIN code directly during your visit to the counter.
