A driving licence allows you to use a motor vehicle on public roads.
Citizens who urgently need to apply for a card or driving licence due to theft of their documents can come on site and ask for an appointment at the reception desk.
There are different categories of driving licence, depending on the type of vehicle being driven. Depending on the situation, orders can be placed online or at the counter.
The validity of a driving licence varies according to category, but the maximum period is 10 years.
You must voluntarily request its renewal no later than 3 months before it expires.
For a first application for a full driving licence, you must meet the following conditions:
- Your main residence must be located in the City of Brussels
- You must be of the minimum age required for the category of driving licence
- You must not be disqualified from driving
- You must have passed the theory and practical tests
To renew an expiring driving licence, obtain a duplicate in the event of loss or theft, or replace an old paper model, you must meet the following conditions:
- Your main residence must be located in the City of Brussels
- You must not be disqualified from driving

1. Apply online via BelDrive
- Log in to External siteBelDrive using your identity card (eID) + pin code or the itsme application
- Take a photo of the licence you wish to renew (front and back) so that you can upload it to the application
- Once validated, you will receive a confirmation e-mail with instructions on how to collect your licence
2. Pick up your licence at the counter
- Without appointment, at the counter of the Brucity Administrative Centre or the liaison offices of Laeken, Louise and Neder-Over-Heembeek
- Take a ticket for the 'BelDrive' service
- Attend in person with original copies of the documents mentioned in the confirmation e-mail

- Stolen licence
- Renewal of Code 95 (vocational aptitude certificate)

- Without appointment, at the counter where the application was submitted

The driving licence must be collected within 90 days of application, after which it will be destroyed. Once destroyed, a new application, subject to the same fees, must be submitted.

1. Loss and theft
Stolen driving licence: you must report the theft of your driving licence to the police to receive a certificate showing your licence number. You can then make an appointment at the counter to order a new driving licence.
Lost driving licence: you can order a new licence directly online via BelDrive.

No, you must check the validity of your licence yourself and renew it in good time.

- Provisional M12, 18 and 36 licences
- Full B licences in the following cases:
