Public Welfare Centre (CPAS-OCMW) of Brussels

The Public Welfare Centre is called CPAS in French and OCMW in Dutch. It has a role which is defined in article 1 of the law of the CPAS.

This article indicates: every person is entitled to social security. This aims at allowing each to lead a life in compliance with human dignity. Public centres of social security are created which, in the conditions determined by the present law, have to assure this help.

The CPAS manages in particular the granting of the living wage (guaranteed minimum income).

Besides, the CPAS of Brussels intervenes in several domains:

  • Social action: social offices, living wage,...
  • Employment and training: social economy projects (like Be-Here and CYCLUP,...)
  • Seniors: support, home care, housing, nursing homes,...
  • Housing: support, renting,...
  • Health: urgent medical assistance, home care,...
  • Children and youth: support for young people and students, support for children and young people in the execution of a mandate
  • Handicap: apartments, day centres, home care, advice and guidance on applying for allowances and other benefits,...
